This Privacy Policy explains what information Puzzle42 ("the app") collects, how it's used, and your choices. It applies to both the Android and iOS versions of the app.
You can play every game in Puzzle42 without creating an account, signing up, or providing your name, email address, or any other identifying information. There is no login screen.
Behind the scenes, the app generates a random, anonymous device identifier the first time you open it, used only to let your progress follow you if you switch devices (see Section 2). This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information you haven't chosen to provide yourself.
Your puzzle progress (rank, hint balance, win streak, and completed puzzles) is stored on your device and also synced to our server so it isn't lost if you reinstall the app or switch phones. This sync includes:
Your username is assigned automatically by default, but you can change it at any time in your profile. Your chosen username is visible to other players on the in-app leaderboards. Please don't use your real name or other personal information as your username if you'd rather keep it private.
This data is stored on our own servers, not shared with or sold to third parties, and is used solely to operate the app's progress sync, streaks, and leaderboard features.
Every core feature of the app — solving puzzles, using hints, Free Play, Daily puzzles — works fully offline. An internet connection is only used to sync your progress/leaderboard data in the background and to serve the optional rewarded ad described below.
To support the app's development, Puzzle42 shows one type of ad: an optional rewarded video ad you can watch in exchange for an extra hint when you run out. This is never shown automatically or without your action.
This ad is served through Google AdMob, which may collect non-personally-identifiable information such as your advertising ID, general device information, app usage data, and approximate location inferred from your IP address, in order to serve and measure ads. We do not control or have access to this data ourselves — it's governed by Google's own privacy policy, linked below.
The app requests internet access (to sync progress and serve ads) and, on Android, access to the device's vibration motor (for haptic feedback during gameplay — this doesn't involve any data collection). The app does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, or any other sensitive device permission.
Puzzle42 is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details below so we can remove it.
We use the information described above only to:
We do not use your information for any other purpose, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
The app uses the following third-party service:
Where required (for example, for users in the EEA and UK), the app requests your consent for personalized advertising through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent framework before any ad is requested.
We do not use any other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services beyond AdMob.
Your progress and leaderboard data is retained for as long as you use the app.
Because Puzzle42 has no login or account system, we can't verify a deletion request sent by email, so we're not able to delete your data on request that way. Instead:
See our Delete my data page for step-by-step instructions.
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect the information described above from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Google AdMob maintains its own security measures for the data it processes.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
